Bird is the Hope
Poem is usually telling story and poem is easier to understand the story than normal book story because it has rhythm, meter, rhyme and shorter. So it is easy to remember. I chose, “Hope is the thing with feathers” and this is written by Emily Dickison in 1861. This is one of her best poem and this is very popular. Her poem is hard to understand if you don't know metaphor. Metaphor is the one of figurative language and it sounds false or ridiculous but after you read it, you'll understand the meaning of metaphor and the connection between two words. In "Hope is the thing with features", Emily Dickison used bird to describe hope. This poem shows that hope is flying like a bird in everywhere in the world and it can stay strong and keep flying in the air even there is a storm. That means people can maintain their hope when they are in hard time or hard situation because hope is everywhere and there is always a chance to catch the hope.
"Hope is the thing with feathers" is about hope as you can see in the title. In this poem, the author think hope as a bird. In first stanza, it describes what is hope. In second stanza, it describes that hope is there but there is other things that makes bird to not reach to the hope. You can hear the sweetest sound when you were in the gale. Sweetest sound is hope but the gale interrupt the bird. So the bird can't reach the hope. It says, "That could abash the little bird" this means that storm can abash or interrupt the hope. This stanza told us about how hard is to reach to the hope but hope can stay strong because at end of second stanza, it says,"That kept so many warm" I think this is showing that storm can abash the hope but hope can stay strong. Third stanza is very difficult to understand. However this is showing that hope can be everywhere because it says, "I've heard it in the chillest land—And on the strangest Sea—." Chilliest land and in the strangest sea described that it could be anywhere.
This poem has three stanzas and each stanza has four lines, so there are 12 lines in this poem. In first stanza, there is slant rhyme which is, "soul" and, "all." Slant rhyme is not actual rhyme but it sounds very similar. In second stanza, there are two end rhymes. Also each line of first stanza and second stanza started with that or and, but only first line of first stanza doesn't start with these two words because this author wanted to say, "Hope is the thing with feathers," at beginning of the poem because the main idea of the poem is this sentence. In third stanza there is no rhyme. In first stanza, syllables are 7, 5, 8, 6, and it doesn't relate but in second and third stanza, syllables are 8, 6, 8, 6. So they are related. I think Emily Dickison didn't care syllables of first stanza because she needed to say, “Hope is the thing with feathers” in first line. Peer review (yichen)
Yichen is doing well organization and analysis the poem. Her paper is separated into six paragraphs and each paragraph talks about different thing. First paragraph is introduction, second paragraph is about the meaning of the poem, third paragraph is about background information of the poem and author. Fourth paragraph is about the form of the poem and what kind of figurative language does author use, fifth paragraph is about environmental description, then last paragraph has conclusion. This paper talked about specific topic or idea in each paragraph so it is easy to follow and understand. In second paragraph and fifth paragraph has good analysis of the poem. The sound paragraph talked about the deep meaning of words that in the poem. So this is not telling the meaning of the surface of the poem, this paragraph tells about what is the deep meaning of the poem. Also in fifth paragraph, she talked about the most important part of the poem and this is help readers to understand about the main point of the poem. This paragraph says that the most important part of the poem is the environmental description. This also helps readers because reader can focus on environmental description. In this paragraph, there is some quotes so readers can understand that which one is environmental description. I like that this paper described that meaning of the poem and the main point of the point. I can tell that the writer understand the meaning of the poem and point of the poem very well.
There is two things that she needs to improve. They are introduction and conclusion. In introduction, she talked about what is poem and what is the poem look like or sounds like. But I can't see the main idea of the paper. At last sentence of the introduction is thesis statement and this is good but it can be more clearly and strongly. In half of this paper's conclusion, I feel like that you are talking about the form of the poem and I think those sentences about the from of the poem should be in fourth paragraph because fourth paragraph talked about form of the poem too. And other half is just analyze the poem again. Then at the end she concluded the paper but this conclusion is in same paragraph with other things so that makes me confuse. But in conclusion, she said similar thing as thesis statement so that's good because she stayed on her main idea of the paper. Also in second paragraph, she analyzed, "There is Another Sky" and it very specific and I understood the meaning of the poem. But if she put some quotes and prove her thought, it would be better than now.
Otherwise, this paper looks great. She wrote some examples of metaphors and imagine from the poem. She uses quotes very well and they help readers. Also she has some information of the author's brother but she needs to cite resources if she gets information from Internet.

Comedy Tonight
On Friday night, "Comedy Tonight" was playing in back box. I liked the play because it was very funny. There is two skits and they are my most favorite. First one is Life among teenagers. In this skits, all actors act like students at Cheshire academy and they were very similar to real life. The most favorite part of this skit is when a basketball player, a football player and a hockey player came to locker room and talk about college, their play and other stuff. I loved the football player because when she started to talk, she said, "suh dude," and said, "gang gang," it was funniest part because football players actually say that and it actually sounds like foodball players. I also like the hockey player because I'm playing hockey and I know that some hockey players said that. It was very funny.
My other favorite skit is, "Morning Meeting Gone Wrong" this was pretty funny to because it was like actually morning meeting. All actors focused on what are teachers habits and characteristics and they acted like that. Ms.Anderson and Mr.Dykmen were exactly like them. John Jiang was very similar to Mr.Dykmen because he has Dunkin donut coffee, wear football jacket, and his voice was very close to Mr.Dykeme. Also the actor who act Mr.Potter was very similar too because his laughing was sounds like Mr.Potter.
I very enjoyed this play and I was very suprised that most of the skits are written by students and directed by students. At Cheshire Academy, boarding students make up approximately 65% of the school community and come from 17 states and 30 countries. Living on campus helps students to learn and grow in a supportive and empowering community.
There are five single-gender dormitories on campus, all of which are home to several faculty members and their families. Additional faculty members live in campus housing scattered throughout the 104-acre campus. Although each dorm differs in design, all living quarters for students have a main lounge area with a television. The majority of rooms are designed for two students, though there are some single and triple rooms also available.
Dorms at Cheshire Academy are more than just a place to sleep and study. Found blog
But her life was short. A week later the whole population of Lightning Ridge came out to the cemetery again. My sister Kellyanne Williamson was buried with her imaginary friends, in the same grave, in the same place where millions of years ago there had been sea and creatures swimming cheerfully around. And she took with her some Violet Crumbles, in case Pobby and Dingan had run out. And although in the end everyone believed that Pobby and Dingan had really lived and were really dead, nobody at the Ridge could quite believe the funeral of Kellyanne Williamson was actually happening. And I, Ashmol, still can’t believe that it did. I just can’t. I can’t believe it at all. Even now, one year later, it feels like she’s still totally alive.

The fig tree is the father's big dream. He loves fig tree mother than any types of tree such as lima beans, zucchini, parsley, beets. But when the mother told the father, "plat one!" But he never did it because he always forgets to water to plants. So he is very dreamer. At end of the poem, he finally has fig tree at his new yard and he got his dream.
The fig symbolize the father's dream or his life in the poem. I think it symbolizes the father's dream because in the poem, it talks about how much he wants the fig tree at his yard and that's his huge dream. Also his family lived in many houses but none of has fig tree, I think this is relating to his life too. So like he is happy to live in many houses because he might has fig tree at his new yard.

Most of line's syllable is 8 but some of them are not 8 syllables so this author doesn't care about syllable that much. The rhyme of the poem is very weird because this poem's rhyme is ABCB DEFE GHIH JKLK MNON PQRQ STUT ......... So second line and fourth line is rhyme. No.8 and 9 stanza's fifth line and sixth line rhyme so I think this poem’s rhyme is very unique. This author doesn't about forms of poem but this poem still has rhyme. Only this author cares about I rise. This author repeat I rise 10 times in this poem. So he cares this deeper than other forms. The main topic of this poem is rise. In each stanza, it says what happen to the person but the person rises. So this poem’s purpose is to tell readers about you should rise when something happen to you. This is about life and rise is very important thing in everyone’s life. In last stanza, there are five lines that say I rise. So we can see that how much this author wants to tell about the importance of rise. I like this poem because I agreed to this poem because I'm living my life and there are so many problems. But I need to rise and keep moving forward so I agree that rise is very important thing in our life. The one reason that I don't like this poem is this poem doesn't have many rhymes. When I read this loud, it doesn't stay in my head. Some other poems stuck in my head but this poem doesn't. But this is still my favorite poem because I like the content of the poem.

I chose this poem because I agree what this poem says. I have a pet and he is so cute and I love him. So I feel really bad for this kid because his pet is not allow in the apartment. I think this is unfair too.
I like rhyme of the poem because this is ABABCC and I think there is only few this type of rhyme. Also I like the sound of the poem. When I say it loud, this poem stuck in my head so it's easy to remember and understand. This poem is about a kid and his pet. He is living in the apartment but they
don't allow pets. They don't listen when he explains about his pet. He was saying that's unfair and trying to tell why this apartment should allow his pet.

Rex told Ashmol, "all this land where lightning Ridge is now was once covered by seawater and how all kinds of sea creatures had been found fossilized in the rock." He was remembered this while he was thinking about Pobby and Dingan. Long time ago, even humans weren't birth on the earth, there are lots of sea creatures. Now, people found out about those creatures but we couldn't find it out if there were no fossils. I think he wanted to say that if he can find the fossils of Pobby and Dingan, he can prove that they were real because fossils are best evidence to show people that they were true. I think this is important to the story because no one believes Pobby and Dingan except Kellyanne and Ashmol needed to prove that they are real because he wanted to fix his family relationships. So if he could find fossils, he could prove that they were real.

They are so important even if they cannot be seen because they are important for person who believe them. In this book, people's dream or imagination moves characters. Rex's dream is to find big opal, Annie wants to go to England, Ashmol wants his family's relationship becomes better, and Kellyanne is friend with imaginary characters.
I focus on Annie's dream. She wants to go to England because England is place that she grew up and she is missing it. So her dream is going to England. She is trying to get close to the dream and that's why she is working. I think this can connect to Kellyanne's imagination. The dream can't see either and she just imagine to go to England. Maybe she can go to England in the futures and maybe she can't. So she just imagines to go there and it is same as Kellyanne. Kellyanne just believes that Pobby and Dingan are real and she is living for them. Dream and imagination are very similar I think because both of them are not able to see. But they are very important to have because if they don't have a dream and imagination, why are they need to live their lives. It's one of a reason people are working hard and living their lives. People are doing something because they have dream that they are imagine and they are trying to get close to the dream. Both dreams and imagination can control people's life.

One thing that I can say about them is Dingan is a girl and Pobby is a boy. Dingan likes opal and she had a lovely opal in her belly button. Pobby had a limp in his right leg. Also they speak English quietly and they likes to whistle. Kellyanne said, “you have to be a certain kind of person to hear them,” and she said, “only you had to be a certain kind of person to see it.” So only few people can see Pobby and Dingan.
Next, their personality. I think Dingan is very outgoing, so she is not shy. In the book, it said, “Kellyanne enter Dingan in for the Opal Princess competition because Kellyanne had a cold.” I think it told us that she likes to go out front of people and she like to do something that people will give her attention. I think she is very beautiful girl and she looked like she has confidence on her. However I think Pobby is much quitter than Dingan because I never saw when Pobby did something in the book. So it seemed like he is older than Dingan and just keep looking at her. I think he is older than Kellyanne and Dingan because I feel like he always look them for their safe. Pobby and Dingan hate Ashmol. She said, “They hate Ashmol.” I think they hate Ashmol at the time because he never believed about Pobby and Dingan and Ashmol hated them to so they hated each other. Both Pobby and Dingan are one of the most important person in her life. They are best friends and I think this is one of why she got very sick. They always stay together, they love each other and they know each other. She said, “Ashmol. Please can you go out one more time to Wyoming and go down the mine. I’ve got a hunch about it. A sort of a feeling.” I think it tells us that she knows lots of things about Pobby and Dingan. Got a hunch about the place that they are at is very cool thing I think. Pobby and Dingan are real?
I think Pobby and Dingan are not real. They are just imaginary friend of Kellyanne. In beginning of chapter one, Ashmol said, "Mum, why do you have to set places for Pobby and Dingan? They aren't even real." Also before that, he said, “They never existed. Things that never existed can’t be dead. Right?” This two sentences told us that Pobby and Dingan aren't existing in real life. Ashmol and his father don't believe about Pobby and Dingan. The book said, "Me and him never took Pobby and Dingan seriously one bit." Also his father is frastlating about it. He said, “Jesus! That girl’s round the twist,” His father wanted her to make a real friend. Her mom is understanding she is different than others. Also after his dad started to try to believe Pobby and Dingan, Ashmol said, "Well, I got to admit it was a funny sight seeing my dad heading out holding hands with two invisible people." This is telling us that Pobby and Dingan aren't able to see. That means they are not real and they are just imaginary characters of Kellyanne.

Favorite character
My most favorite character in the play is Ti Moune. First she is very emotional. She made really happy face when she is in good mood, but she also made sad face when she is in bad mood.
Second, I liked how she believed about love. She tried everything for the love with Daniel. She is very trustful and I wanted to cheer her love with Daniel. Also when she found Daniel and he was injured she decided help him. Daniel is rich man and other peasants told her to don't help him because he was very mean to peasants, but she is a very kind girl so she helped him. So I felt really bad when Daniel dumped her.

Musical
I watched Once On This Island on Friday. Before I watched the play, I don't want to say this but I thought it will be boring. When I was young, I went to musical sometimes, but I didn't watch a musical for a long time. And I don't go to the fall musical at cheshire because I had a hockey game and I couldn't go so I couldn't expect what is this musical going to be like.
This musical was about a girl name is Ti Moune who adapted to peasant family. Mama Euralie and Tonton Julian were talking care of Ti Moune. She grew up to really cute and nice girl. One day, she found a guy which is Daniel. He is a rich guy and he was injured because of the car accident. Ti Moune started to take care of him, but other peasants didn't want to help him because he was mean to peasants. But Ti Moune didn't listen them. She took care of him and he wasn't hurt anymore. Daniel went back to his town and he didn't know who helped him. However, Ti Moune couldn't forget about him and she decided to go to see him. When she got there, she could meet him and she told him that she helped him. They fell in the love and they stayed together for long time. But Daniel’s parent didn't like Ti Moune because she is from peasant family. So they separated Ti Moune and Daniel. Daniel started to stay with other rich girl and that hurts Ti Moune’s feelings. Daniel realized that he shouldn't stay with Ti Moune so I think he still liked Ti Moune but he didn't stay with her. At end, she laid down on the flour and didn't move.
It was kind of sad story because I wanted to Ti Moune would stay with Daniel but he didn't so I was disappointed about him. But I liked the musical because of music. Some parts are really fun and happy but some parts are scary and sad. Those musical made me to get into the story. Like I felt like u was part of the story. I could understand the feelings of each character because of the musics. Also actors are really good at singing so I was very impressed. My favorite actor is John Jiang. He was the guard if the gates and I liked his act because he is very good at showing emotions. His torn of voice was different everytime so I could see his emotions or feeling very easily. Also my other favorite character is Ti Moune and which is acted by Julia. I think she was one of the best actor in the play. First, she is very good at singing. I don't know what to say about her singing. It was just so good. I knew she is good at singing because of morning meeting, but I realized she is good at singing again. And when is she acting her face is very emotional and I can tell her feelings from her face. Also she looked like she was enjoying to act in the play. She wasn't seemed nervous. For me, she was just enjoying and happy to act in the play.
